Dr. Ajalesh B. Nair joined Union Christian College, Aluva on 09/10/2017 as Assistant Professor of Chemistry. After completing M.Sc. in Chemistry, he worked on various projects at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) including ones sponsored by KSCSTE, and DRDO. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry (Polymer Technology) from Department of Polymer Science and Rubber Technology, CUSAT in January 2014. He is the recipient of the prestigious brain Korea (BK- 21 Plus) post-doctoral fellowship from South Korea. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Polymer Science (PGDIRI) from Indian Rubber Institute (IRI) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur. Prior to joining Union Christian College, he worked as Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT), Angamaly for three years. During his tenure at FISAT, he served as a research guide under A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), Thiruvananthapuram. He served as the convener of International Conference on Advances in Applied Mathematics, Materials Science and Nanotechnology for Engineering and Industrial Applications (IC-AMMN-2K16), held at FISAT campus from 7th to 9th January 2016.
He has been serving as the Program Officer of National Service Scheme (NSS) unit at Union Christian College since June 2022. He was one of the co-conveners of the mega exhibition “Centennial Vista 2022”, held as part of centenary celebrations of Union Christian College. He is a member of Anti-ragging Cell of the college. He functioned as the resource person and coordinator for state level programs like Gifted Children Program (2023), Science enrichment programs like Sastrajaalakam(2018,2019) and Sasthrapadham(2019, 2020) funded by Goverenment of Kerala. Apart from this he currently serves as department research coordinator.
He is currently an approved research guide in Chemistry at Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. His research interests lie in the areas of polymer blends, nanocomposites, energy storage materials, conducting polymers, bio nanocomposites and natural fiber reinforced composites. He has 10 years of teaching experience and more than 15 years of research experience to his credit. He is one of the Co-PIs of the major project titled “Fabrication and Characterization of band structure engineered TiO2 nanotubes for photocatalytic and antimicrobial applications’’ funded by DST-SERB-CRG sanctioned in 2020. He is a recipient of Science and Engineering Research Board – Teachers Associateship for Research Excellence (SERB- TARE) in the year 2022 for the project titled “Development of Flexible, self healing and high power density supercapacitors”.
He has made more than 35 scholarly contributions including both international/national journal publications and 19 conference papers. His book publications include Engineering Chemistry textbook and laboratory manual for B.Tech students following the KTU syllabus. In addition to working as referee/reviewer for various international journals, he has also contributed a chapter each to 15 books published by renowned international publishers namely, American Chemical Society (ACS), Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis, Elsevier, Wiley-VCH and Woodhead Publishing.
